Instant Pot Prawn Biryani

This recipe is often made in my kitchen and goes down well with the family. Rice dishes very easy to cook if you have a fast cooker like the Instant Pot or Pressure King Pro.

Instructions
  1. Warm your Instant Pot / Pressure King Pro on saute/fry mode
  2. Add oil and cardamon, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves and cloves
  3. Add onions and let them cook for about 40 seconds (don’t overcook or they will disappear in the ‘fast pressure mode’
  4. Add 1 teaspoon of salt (keep the remainder for later)
  5. Add peppers and slightly stir fry for 20 seconds (again, don’t overcook)
  6. Add the garlic, ginger and chilli paste and mix well
  7. Add the turmeric and mix well
  8. Add the curry powder followed by the garam masala and give it a good mix
  9. The ingredients cooking may start to stick so add 1/2 cup of water into the pot
  10. Add prawns to the pot and mix
  11. Add the potatoes into the pot, followed by the creamed coconut
  12. Add rice, saffron and salt
  13. Reminder of 2 cups of water and give it all a final mix
  14. Turn off the saute/fry mode
  15. Carefully close the lid (turn the vent to sealing to prevent steam from escaping) and set the pot to ‘MANUAL/PRESSURE COOKER mode' and set the time for 5 minutes
  16. After 5 minutes, let the pressure naturally release from the pot
  17. Be very careful opening the lid and please make sure all the pressure has escaped from the pot
  18. Serve with a sprinkle of coriander
Recipe Notes

Spice level: Medium to Hot

To reduce the level of spice, half the amount of chilli, ginger and garlic paste and garam masala. This will give you a mild Prawn Biryani.
